With great hope and joy, we announce our new Director of Religious Education for our Drexel Hill Regional PREP. Mrs. Kathy McGovern will assume her new role as DRE effective July 1. Kathy brings well over 20 years of experience to the ministry of Catholic Religious Education and articulates a compelling vision of faith formation in our newly combined parish catechetical program. She combines the attributes of deep faith, pastoral wisdom, operational excellence, and a profound commitment to the evangelizing mission of the Catholic faith.

Her office will be located at St. Andrew and her email address is DREdrexelhill@gmail.com. Please join us in welcoming Kathy and in praying for her as she begins this new ministry of leadership and service to the Church.

Registration Now Open! - If your child attends a non-Catholic school and would like to learn more about our faith and receive the Sacraments of First Penance, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, you are encouraged to enroll them in our Parish Religious Education Program. We encourage you to register now so that we can properly plan. Registration forms are available in the Parish Office or can be downloaded below.

Classes will meet Monday evenings - 6:30-7:50 PM at Saint Andrew School beginning September 21, 2026.

It is a blessing to partner with you, the parents and guardians, in the formation of our children in the Catholic faith.  As you are the primary educators of your children, we are thankful for your dedication and commitment to their spiritual
formation and religious education.

Each parish remains focused on their families’ faith development with a desire to equip and strengthen our local community.  By uniting our parishes in this initiative, we are able to strengthen the following three areas:

1. Supporting continual professional development of catechists
2. Providing opportunities for engagement of parents, guardians, and families
3. Offering the greatest degree of education and formation for our children

Please join us in prayer as we ask Our Lord to bless this joint initiative so that we may bring all God’s people into the fullness of the Catholic faith.

God bless you and your families,
Fr. Marc Capizzi - St. Andrew the Apostle
Fr. Chris Coffiey - St. Bernadette of Lourdes
Msgr. George Majoros and Fr. Michael Davis - St. Charles Borromeo and Sacred Heart (Clifton Heights)

  • Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children.  They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity and disinterested service are the rule.  The home is well suited for education in the virtues.  This requires an apprenticeship in self-denial, sound judgment and self-mastery - the preconditions of all true freedom.  Parents should teach their children to subordinate the "material and instinctual dimensions to interior and spiritual ones."  Parents have a grave responsibility to give good example to their children.  By knowing how to acknowledge their own failings to their children, parents will be better able to guide and correct them.   CCC #2223

  • Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child's earliest years.  This already happens when family members help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel.  Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith.  Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God.  The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents.    CCC #2226

Children who do not attend a Catholic school are encouraged to enroll in PREP.

At least 2 years of instruction is required for public school children to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist; 6 years of instruction is required to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
